正值新春佳節(jié)，寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)執(zhí)行校長(zhǎng)尼克·邁爾斯教授欣喜地收到了幾封特殊的來(lái)信，寄件人分別是浙江省省長(zhǎng)鄭柵潔，寧波市委副書記、市長(zhǎng)裘東耀，浙江省教育廳黨委書記、廳長(zhǎng)陳根芳。

他們向尼克·邁爾斯校長(zhǎng)致以新春祝福，肯定寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)近年來(lái)取得的矚目成績(jī)，并對(duì)學(xué)校未來(lái)發(fā)展寄予殷切希望。

浙江省省長(zhǎng)鄭柵潔在信中指出，省市政府將一如既往支持學(xué)校的建設(shè)發(fā)展，希望將寧諾打造成中外合作辦學(xué)的樣板和服務(wù)地方發(fā)展的高地。

肯定寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)辦學(xué)成績(jī)

尼克·邁爾斯校長(zhǎng)一直堅(jiān)守在校園防控疫情一線，已經(jīng)快兩年沒(méi)有回國(guó)了。春節(jié)前夕，他特別致信他的中國(guó)朋友們表以感謝和祝福，同時(shí)提交了一份過(guò)去一年寧諾的成績(jī)單。

他寫道：“在最新發(fā)布的軟科‘中國(guó)最好大學(xué)排行榜’中，寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)位列全國(guó)第68位、浙江省第2位，體現(xiàn)了學(xué)校在生源、教學(xué)質(zhì)量以及科研水平等方面的綜合實(shí)力。學(xué)校積極應(yīng)對(duì)新冠疫情，成為率先也是唯一在去年春季重啟校園、開(kāi)學(xué)復(fù)課的中外合作大學(xué)。”

僅一周時(shí)間，浙江省省長(zhǎng)鄭柵潔便回復(fù)了尼克·邁爾斯校長(zhǎng)：“很高興收到您的來(lái)信，在寧波面對(duì)面交流的情景我還歷歷在目。多年來(lái)，您兢兢業(yè)業(yè)辦學(xué)，帶領(lǐng)寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)在高水平中外合作大學(xué)建設(shè)中取得了令人矚目的成績(jī)，為浙江高等教育強(qiáng)省建設(shè)作出了積極貢獻(xiàn)�！�

回信紛至沓來(lái)。

浙江省委常委、寧波市委書記彭佳學(xué)向尼克·邁爾斯校長(zhǎng)致以口頭新春祝福，并表示期待與他在寧諾校園見(jiàn)面共敘未來(lái)。

寧波市委副書記、市長(zhǎng)裘東耀祝賀寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)在尼克的領(lǐng)導(dǎo)推動(dòng)下，在教學(xué)、科研等方面取得了優(yōu)異的成績(jī)。

浙江省教育廳黨委書記、廳長(zhǎng)陳根芳則肯定了寧諾在人才培養(yǎng)、辦學(xué)質(zhì)量和社會(huì)影響力等方面取得的豐碩成果。

將一如既往支持學(xué)校的建設(shè)發(fā)展

邁入“十四五”元年，寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)正在積極謀劃高水平國(guó)際化大學(xué)建設(shè)攀高。同時(shí)，將繼續(xù)發(fā)揮其國(guó)際化特色和資源優(yōu)勢(shì)，為地方發(fā)展和建設(shè)添磚加瓦。

鄭柵潔在回信中指出，“2021年是‘十四五’開(kāi)局之年，也是浙江爭(zhēng)創(chuàng)社會(huì)主義現(xiàn)代化先行省啟動(dòng)實(shí)施之年。

我們將一如既往支持學(xué)校的建設(shè)發(fā)展，也希望學(xué)校堅(jiān)持高質(zhì)量辦學(xué)，面向世界、辦出水平，服務(wù)浙江、辦出特色，引進(jìn)世界一流教學(xué)科研資源，大力實(shí)施‘卓越燈塔’等一批同浙江發(fā)展高度契合、緊密融合的項(xiàng)目，打造中外合作辦學(xué)的樣板和服務(wù)地方發(fā)展的高地�！�

“匯聚全球智慧，解決當(dāng)?shù)仉y題”。

這些年，寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)與地方政府共建了寧波諾丁漢國(guó)際海洋經(jīng)濟(jì)技術(shù)研究院、諾丁漢大學(xué)寧波新材料研究院等多個(gè)高能級(jí)創(chuàng)新平臺(tái)，構(gòu)建與城市發(fā)展的良性互動(dòng)。

去年，學(xué)校再次和政府簽署合作共建協(xié)議，圍繞寧波戰(zhàn)略發(fā)展中智能制造、綠色化學(xué)、生命大健康三個(gè)方向，引入英國(guó)諾丁漢大學(xué)的頭部科研“兵力”和資源，共建“燈塔創(chuàng)新研究院”，助推寧波戰(zhàn)略轉(zhuǎn)型和創(chuàng)新發(fā)展。

裘東耀在信中直抒了寧波市政府的期冀：“希望寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)充分發(fā)揮教學(xué)、科研和國(guó)際交流優(yōu)勢(shì)，積極助力寧波高質(zhì)量發(fā)展。我們將一如既往地全力支持寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)建設(shè)高水平中外合作大學(xué)�！�

截至目前，寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)已向社會(huì)累計(jì)輸送1.8萬(wàn)名本科、碩士、博士畢業(yè)生，選擇深造的本科畢業(yè)生超過(guò)30%進(jìn)入全球前十頂尖高校，43%的碩士和36%的博士畢業(yè)生選擇留在浙江工作和創(chuàng)業(yè)，直接服務(wù)地方社會(huì)經(jīng)濟(jì)發(fā)展。

浙江省教育廳廳長(zhǎng)陳根芳在回信中寄語(yǔ)寧諾：“希望學(xué)校抓住新機(jī)遇，不斷創(chuàng)新進(jìn)取，為浙江發(fā)展提供人才、智力、科技支持�！�

他表示，浙江省教育廳將在招生名額、課程設(shè)置、學(xué)科發(fā)展、科研等領(lǐng)域給予學(xué)校持續(xù)的支持。

元宵佳節(jié)，寓意團(tuán)圓，也寄寓了對(duì)新一年的美好愿望。

寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)執(zhí)行校長(zhǎng)尼克·邁爾斯教授表示，這幾封信給予了他和學(xué)校莫大的信心和鼓舞。學(xué)校將繼續(xù)發(fā)揮國(guó)際化優(yōu)勢(shì)，力爭(zhēng)辦學(xué)更有特色、更有水平，更好地融入地方高質(zhì)量發(fā)展的宏圖。

Local and provincial governments congratulate UNNC on promoting quality international education

During the Spring Festival, Professor Nick Miles, Provost of the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC), received several letters from Governor of Zhejiang Province Zheng Shanjie, Deputy Party Secretary and Mayor of Ningbo Municipal Government Qiu Dongyao, and Director General of Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education Chen Genfang in response to his New Year greetings. They affirmed the remarkable achievements made by UNNC and placed great hope in its future development.

In the letter Professor Miles introduced: “In the 2020 Academic Ranking of World Universities, UNNC ranked 68 nationally and the second in Zhejiang, which demonstrates our comprehensive strength in student quality, teaching excellence and research capability. The University actively responded to the Covid-19 pandemic and was the first Sino-foreign university to re-open its campus in spring 2020.”

Zheng replied: “I can still remember our face-to-face meeting in Ningbo. In the past years, you have been dedicating yourself to UNNC, and under your leadership the University has made remarkable achievements in building a high-level Sino-foreign university and made positive contributions to Zhejiang education.”

Peng Jiaxue, Standing Committee member of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee and secretary of the Ningbo Municipal Party Committee, also sent New Year greetings to Professor Miles. Qiu congratulated Professor Miles for making “outstanding achievements in teaching & learning, research and other various areas”.Chen also extended warm congratulations on behalf of Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education at knowing the achievement of the University made last year.

At the beginning of the “14th Five-Year Plan” stage, the University is looking ahead to its development as a high-level international university during this period; it is dedicated to utilising its international resources to serve the local social and economic development.

In his reply, Zheng wrote: “2021 is the first year of the ‘14th Five-year Plan’ phase and also the starting year for Zhejiang to build ‘Socialist Modernization Pioneer Province’”. He demonstrates that the government will continue to support UNNC’s development that the University will continue its high-quality international education, introducing world-class teaching & learning and research resources, implementing “China Beacons” and other projects that highly align with Zhejiang’s development.

In recent years, UNNC has linked up with local government and established various high energy innovation platforms, including the Ningbo Nottingham International Academy for Marine Economy and Technology and the New Materials Institute.

Last year, the University signed an Implementation Agreement with local government to co-establish the Nottingham Ningbo China Beacons of Excellence Research and Innovation Institute. Focusing on the three areas that highly align with local development, the Institute introduces pioneering experiences and resources from University of Nottingham UK and serves the development of Ningbo.

“We hope that UNNC continues to take advantage of teaching & learning, research and international exchange to support the high-quality development of Ningbo city,” wrote Qiu in his response.

Since its establishment, more than 18,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students have gained a degree from UNNC. Over 30% of undergraduate graduates were accepted by world Top 10 universities and 43% of Master’s and 36% of doctoral graduates remained in Zhejiang for work and entrepreneurship, making contributions to the local social and economic development.

Chen illustrates that he fully hopes that the University can take advantage of new opportunities, making continuous progress and innovation, to provide talent, intellectual, and scientific support for the development of Zhejiang. “Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education also offers continuous support in the fields including student enrollment quota, discipline development, course establishment, scientific research, etc,” he wrote.

After receiving these inspiring messages, Professor Nick Miles says that the University will continue to improve its quality of teaching and better support local high-quality development.
