10月17日，寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)（以下簡(jiǎn)稱“寧諾”）與鄞州印象城聯(lián)動(dòng)舉辦的城市記憶大展——“何以為城”落下帷幕。展覽以寧波千年港城、水文化作為切入點(diǎn)，結(jié)合寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)城市記憶實(shí)驗(yàn)室的研究成果，通過(guò)展陳設(shè)計(jì)、史料展品、藝術(shù)作品，對(duì)這座擁有1200年歷史的城市開(kāi)展探討，表達(dá)對(duì)社會(huì)變遷、個(gè)體生活的人文思考。

無(wú)獨(dú)有偶，為全面慶祝寧波建城1200周年，由寧諾參與共同指導(dǎo)的“海外寧波記憶1200”特別展覽最近也在寧波市文化館火熱展出中。

系列展覽

城市孕育大學(xué)，大學(xué)滋養(yǎng)城市。近年來(lái)，寧諾與寧波始終協(xié)同發(fā)展，通過(guò)“共建、共享、共益、共進(jìn)”，深化校地融合，實(shí)現(xiàn)高校與地方之間的互利共贏。

“從1200年前走來(lái)”，

展覽“何以為城”圓滿落幕

在“何以為城”展覽現(xiàn)場(chǎng)，觀眾們能看到電視里播放的孝聞街、老外灘等城市行走紀(jì)錄片，還能看到郵政局遺址、客運(yùn)大樓等近代畫(huà)卷。同時(shí)，當(dāng)代寧波的自然藝術(shù)、居民的衣食住行，也在建構(gòu)并書(shū)寫(xiě)城市文化的一部分。

策展人、寧諾城市記憶實(shí)驗(yàn)室負(fù)責(zé)人Yat-Ming Loo博士表示，“城市記憶不只是過(guò)去的歷史，更不是僵硬冰冷的，而是生活在這里的所有普通市民，一直在參與創(chuàng)造的過(guò)程。城市的現(xiàn)在與未來(lái)是屬于大家的，我希望展覽能讓市民對(duì)寧波更有感情與歸屬感，意識(shí)到自己的回憶與聲音同樣重要�！�

自2020年寧諾城市記憶實(shí)驗(yàn)室成立以來(lái)，40余名來(lái)自寧諾理工學(xué)院的本科生們投入到收集寧波城市文化記憶的工作中來(lái)。眾人歷經(jīng)前期文獻(xiàn)書(shū)籍資料整理和城市建筑實(shí)地調(diào)研，用腳步和眼睛丈量城市文化；又通過(guò)活動(dòng)策劃，展品陳設(shè)與展覽設(shè)計(jì)等方式傳承寧波記憶。

值得一提的是，在展覽舉辦期間，寧諾學(xué)子與當(dāng)?shù)氐男�學(xué)生們化身為小小講解員，為市民們講解展覽。寧諾理工學(xué)子還帶來(lái)了樂(lè)高建筑工坊、城市行走、手繪寧波等活動(dòng)，提升了展覽的趣味性。

跨越世紀(jì)的記憶，

“海外寧波記憶1200”特展正在進(jìn)行

而在寧波市文化館， “海外寧波記憶1200”特別展覽則展示了外國(guó)旅客眼中的近代寧波，分享了當(dāng)代外籍在甬人士的心路歷程，以跨越時(shí)空的記憶串聯(lián)起這座國(guó)際化古城的千年旅程。

展覽選取了12位歷史上到訪過(guò)寧波，且推動(dòng)了近代中國(guó)社會(huì)走向現(xiàn)代化轉(zhuǎn)型的西方來(lái)客，試圖從他們的事跡、自述和回憶中重現(xiàn)19世紀(jì)和20世紀(jì)初的寧波。在他們中，不少人成為了寧波乃至中國(guó)教育事業(yè)現(xiàn)代化的先驅(qū)，如瑪麗姑娘（Mary Ann Aldersey）在寧波建立了中國(guó)第一所女子學(xué)校。一百年后的今天，寧波已然成為了對(duì)外開(kāi)放的重要窗口，也促使了更多外國(guó)人來(lái)到寧波生活、工作。展覽亦開(kāi)辟了一個(gè)單位，講述當(dāng)代12位各行各業(yè)的在甬外籍人士與寧波的故事。

“雖然相隔一個(gè)多世紀(jì)，但開(kāi)放包容的城市特征卻一直吸引著外國(guó)人來(lái)到寧波。從外國(guó)人的眼中凝視寧波賦予了我們一個(gè)獨(dú)特而又鮮活的視角，我們希望觀眾能夠發(fā)現(xiàn)那些被忽視的、被埋沒(méi)的、被習(xí)以為常的城市元素�！�

策展人之一、寧諾大四學(xué)生吳文博說(shuō)。

開(kāi)幕式上，寧諾首席財(cái)務(wù)與規(guī)劃執(zhí)行官馬天就提到，該項(xiàng)目加強(qiáng)了中西方的文化聯(lián)動(dòng)，是中英兩國(guó)人文交流的重要形式。

承辦此次展覽的寧諾寧波歷史數(shù)字人文研究項(xiàng)目組由多位專家學(xué)者領(lǐng)銜，他們長(zhǎng)期致力于建設(shè)一個(gè)權(quán)威、全面的寧波歷史數(shù)據(jù)庫(kù)。項(xiàng)目組負(fù)責(zé)人謝晶博士表示，“我們正在把數(shù)據(jù)庫(kù)的一部分內(nèi)容展現(xiàn)在大眾眼前，希望市民有老照片可以共享，通過(guò)數(shù)字化保護(hù)知識(shí)產(chǎn)權(quán)，讓歷史記憶長(zhǎng)久保存。”

寧諾首席財(cái)務(wù)與規(guī)劃執(zhí)行官馬天、寧諾人文與社會(huì)科學(xué)學(xué)院院長(zhǎng)任格雷教授等出席了開(kāi)幕式并為展覽開(kāi)幕剪彩。

誠(chéng)如校訓(xùn)“城市建于智慧之上”所昭示的那樣，十七年來(lái)，寧諾一直在努力構(gòu)建與寧波城市發(fā)展的良性互動(dòng)，以自身的智力資源投身寧波的經(jīng)濟(jì)、文化、科技建設(shè)，把更好地服務(wù)地方內(nèi)化為自身前行的澎湃動(dòng)力。

UNNC holds exhibitions to celebrate the 1200th anniversary of the founding of Ningbo

17 October: The “What makes a city?” exhibition co-organised by University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) and Yinzhou Incity came to an end, which celebrated the 1200-year history of Ningbo City. The exhibition encouraged participants to ponder upon Ningbo’s water culture history as a way to illustrate the changes of the city from past to present with a particular focus on urban development and social changes in individual life.

In the meanwhile, the Overseas Memories of Ningbo 1200 Exhibition - co-directed by UNNC - is still ongoing at Ningbo Cultural Centre to commemorate the 1200th anniversary of the founding of Ningbo.

Cities breed universities, and the development of universities contributes to the cities. In recent years, UNNC and Ningbo have been continuously developing together through "cooperation, sharing, communications and mutual benefit", so as to achieve a win-win situation.

On the “What makes a city?” exhibition, the audience was able to see the old views of the city’s landmarks such as Xiaowen Street and the original site of the post office, as well as the natural landscape and the life of the Ningbo residents of the time, comprising parts of the city culture.

The curator of the exhibition and leader of the UNNC Ningbo Urban Memory Lab (NUML), Dr Yat-Ming Loo states, “Urban memories of Ningbo are not just about the history of this city. In my view, it is a process of memory-making where all residents are involved in creating and participating continuously. I hope that this exhibition will enhance the sense of belonging among Ningbo residents and help them to realise that their own memories and voices of the cities are equally important in the making of the present and future of our city.”

Since the establishment of NUML in December 2020, more than 40 UNNC undergraduate students have joined the Lab and conducted research on Ningbo City and created their own Ningbo memories by getting involved in activities such as City Walks, documentaries, and dialogues with famous architects.

During the exhibition, they brought a series of activities to the audience along with local pupils including guided tours of the exhibition, City Walks, Lego Artwork, and a “Hand-drawn Ningbo”.

Unlike the “What makes a city?” exhibition, the Overseas Memories of Ningbo 1200 Exhibition held in Ningbo Cultural Centre displays the modern Ningbo in the eyes of foreign visitors, sharing their experiences and thoughts.

From the perspective of 12 foreigners who visited Ningbo and promoted the modernisation of Chinese society, the exhibition retrospectively showcased life in Ningbo in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Among them, many had made prominent contributions, such as Mary Ann Aldersey, who established China's first women’s school in Ningbo.

Today, Ningbo has become an important window for opening China to the world and has also attracted more foreigners to live and work in Ningbo. There is also a unit in the exhibition about the stories of 12 foreigners living in modern Ningbo.

“With this unique and fresh perspective, we hope the audience can discover the overlooked, buried and taken for granted elements of the city," said Wenbo Wu, one of the exhibition planners and a year four student at UNNC.

At the opening ceremony, Thomas Murphy, Chief Financial and Planning Officer of UNNC, pointed out that the project strengthens the cultural linkage between China and the West and is a significant form of cultural exchange between China and the UK.

The Ningbo History Digital Humanities research team, which hosted the exhibition this time, is consisted of several academic staff of UNNC from different areas and is working to establish an authoritative and comprehensive database on Ningbo history. Team leader Dr Jing Xie introduces that they are presenting part of the database to the public and hopes to invite Ningbo residents to share their old photos to visualize the history and protect patents through digitalization.

“A city is built on wisdom” is the foundation motto of University of Nottingham. Over the past 17 years, UNNC has been striving to build a positive interaction with the urban development of Ningbo, devoting its own intellectual resources to the economic, cultural and scientific and technological construction of the city.
