最近，一筆筆桌面五軸機(jī)床訂單“飛來(lái)”，為寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)先進(jìn)制造中心迎來(lái)了“開(kāi)門(mén)紅”。據(jù)悉，這是該中心第一個(gè)正式被批準(zhǔn)的商業(yè)化項(xiàng)目，其背后的歷程凸顯了寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)對(duì)“科研落地、教研相長(zhǎng)”的重視和決心。

一個(gè)“偷懶”想法萌生的設(shè)計(jì)圖

文中開(kāi)頭提到的“五軸機(jī)床”是精密度高且專門(mén)用于加工復(fù)雜曲面的機(jī)床，對(duì)國(guó)家的航空、航天、軍工、精密器械、高端模具、高精醫(yī)療設(shè)備等行業(yè)發(fā)展有著舉足輕重的作用。

寧諾先進(jìn)智能制造研究團(tuán)隊(duì)的學(xué)科帶頭人李灝楠博士帶領(lǐng)團(tuán)隊(duì)自主研發(fā)的“桌面五軸機(jī)床”是一款創(chuàng)新型產(chǎn)品，它一改傳統(tǒng)機(jī)床往日的笨重、不易移動(dòng)且費(fèi)用昂貴等缺點(diǎn)，外型輕巧、可便攜，體積較之前減少了40倍，受到國(guó)內(nèi)眾多高�？蒲性核�的青睞。

有著如此創(chuàng)新魅力的產(chǎn)品是如何“誕生”的呢？李灝楠笑著打趣道：“為了偷懶！”原來(lái)，從事科研團(tuán)隊(duì)的學(xué)生們那會(huì)兒做實(shí)驗(yàn)在二樓，實(shí)際操作傳統(tǒng)機(jī)床放置在一樓，所以每次做科研就看著他們上上下下爬樓梯，可體型如此大的機(jī)床挪不到二樓，于是萌生了設(shè)計(jì)輕便式機(jī)床的想法。而且，這與學(xué)校曾提議的制造中心需設(shè)計(jì)個(gè)性化設(shè)備的想法不謀而合，于是，李灝楠帶領(lǐng)整個(gè)團(tuán)隊(duì)花費(fèi)了一年多的時(shí)間，在不停地試錯(cuò)中，驗(yàn)證了桌面五軸機(jī)床的可行性，使得第一代桌面機(jī)床成功“出世”。

此后，團(tuán)隊(duì)不斷地根據(jù)市場(chǎng)反饋對(duì)功能進(jìn)行添加和刪減，并考慮到批量生產(chǎn)的需求，對(duì)設(shè)備進(jìn)行迭代升級(jí)。如今桌面機(jī)床到今年年底將產(chǎn)生第三代產(chǎn)品。中心已經(jīng)接到了不少預(yù)訂訂單。

以研促教的探索性教學(xué)

目前，有著國(guó)際學(xué)術(shù)背景的先進(jìn)制造中心，是寧諾在制造工藝基礎(chǔ)研究、高端裝備研發(fā)應(yīng)用、高層次專業(yè)技術(shù)人才培養(yǎng)、國(guó)際學(xué)術(shù)合作交流的重要基地之一。中心已培養(yǎng)博士/碩士研究生47名，與國(guó)內(nèi)哈爾濱工業(yè)大學(xué)、上海交通大學(xué)、華中科技大學(xué)等多家高校有著緊密的科研合作，國(guó)際上也擁有一定的知名度。

而對(duì)于李灝楠而言，他作為一名老師，更讓他欣慰的是，這幾年科研教研相輔相成的成果。

他說(shuō)，以前跟學(xué)生們講課即便借用很多視頻和圖片來(lái)解析理論上的知識(shí)點(diǎn)，但總是很難具體理解，而如今借用科研教學(xué)，學(xué)生們就會(huì)用已學(xué)的知識(shí)去探索，實(shí)際操作之后，發(fā)現(xiàn)問(wèn)題，再帶著目的性的求知去學(xué)習(xí)，這或許才是科研帶給教學(xué)最大的內(nèi)驅(qū)力。

航空系大三學(xué)生楊皓中在這個(gè)暑假就有深刻的領(lǐng)悟，他說(shuō)，平常在上課時(shí)理解抽象的理論知識(shí)是一堂課的關(guān)鍵，如果單憑想象其實(shí)是遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)不夠的，而科研實(shí)踐給予了很多沉浸式的體驗(yàn)，大大提升了自己的能力。

當(dāng)然，李灝楠坦言，高�？蒲许�(xiàng)目落地產(chǎn)業(yè)化，科研教研相融合教學(xué)，這些問(wèn)題都需要更長(zhǎng)的時(shí)間去探索，希望能讓更多的高�？蒲泄ぷ髡咴黾涌萍汲晒�轉(zhuǎn)化的信心以及獲得教學(xué)實(shí)踐的有力支點(diǎn)。

UNNC transfers research outcomes to innovative product

The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) recently received a large number of orders of the five-axis machine tools that are being designed in its Advanced Manufacturing Centre (AMC). It is the first commercial project of the Centre officially approved.

The five-axis machine tool is one of the innovative products designed by AMC which is led by Dr Haonan Li, Associate Professor in Advanced and Intelligent Manufacturing. The new product has changed the clunky appearance of the former model, creating a lightweight, portable model that is 40 times smaller than the original. Dr Li’s design has so far received favourable attention from various domestic universities and research institutions.

So how did such a state-of-the-art innovative product come to fruition? Dr Li smiled and jokingly said, "because we were lazy!" It turned out that the students working in the research team were doing experiments on the second floor, and the machine tools were on the first floor and too heavy to be moved. Every time they had to do experiments, they would have to alternate between the two floors. Thus, the idea of designing lightweight machine tools came into being.

This idea also coincided with the University’s proposal that encourages the manufacturing center to develop its own personalised equipment. As a result, Dr Li led his team for more than a year in bringing the first generation of the machine tools into being. The iteration of the scientific equipment has been remarkably fast. The team continuously adjust the functions of the tools according to market feedback and sales have been gradually rising. The third generation of machine tools will begin production at the end of the year.

At present, the AMC with international academic background is one of the most important bases for UNNC’s research into the manufacturing process, as well as high-end equipment research and development application, high-level professional and technical personnel training, and international academic cooperation and exchange. The Centre has cultivated 47 PhD and Master students, and has cooperated closely with renowned domestic universities such as Harbin University of Technology, Shanghai Jiaotong University, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology. The Centre is also increasingly recognised on the international stage.

As a teacher, Dr Li takes pride in seeing the mutual development of scientific research and teaching in recent years and how they have benefited each other. He said that lectures would previously rely on a lot of video and image content to explain theoretical knowledge, but it would still be difficult for students to understand the specific details. Nowadays, with the help of research backed teaching practices, students are able to use knowledge they’ve learned to reassess questions and explore problems from a different perspective. This is perhaps the biggest driving force to teaching practices that scientific research has brought about.

Mr Haozhong Yang, a year three student, came to a profound realisation on this over the summer vacation, and commented that the scientific research practices help to fuel student’s imagination by creating an immersive experience which will in turn improve their abilities.

Dr Li admitted that surrounding the industrialisation of scientific research projects in universities and the development of scientific research backed teaching, there are much more to be explored. He hopes that university researchers will become increasingly confident in the transformation of technological achievements and develop a strongpoint in teaching practices.
