暑期過半。在寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)創(chuàng)新實(shí)驗(yàn)室里,學(xué)生們正忙得不亦樂乎!
作為寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)歷史最悠久的一個(gè)學(xué)生綜合素質(zhì)提升計(jì)劃,本科生科研實(shí)習(xí)項(xiàng)目在2020至2021學(xué)年開啟了第10個(gè)年頭。今年科研實(shí)習(xí)項(xiàng)目還從原本的僅在暑假開展,延伸拓展到學(xué)期中。在學(xué)期中,14個(gè)科研項(xiàng)目,吸引了124名學(xué)生參與。而在今年暑假,一共有100余個(gè)科研項(xiàng)目,招募學(xué)生近400名。

沉浸式體驗(yàn)科研魅力
暑假科研實(shí)習(xí)的主要目的是為在校生創(chuàng)造與來自不同學(xué)科、不同年級(jí)學(xué)生接觸與互動(dòng)的機(jī)會(huì),搭建了解科學(xué)研究實(shí)質(zhì)、增進(jìn)科研技能、探索自身興趣的平臺(tái),以達(dá)到學(xué)生潛力激發(fā)、可轉(zhuǎn)換技能掌握和綜合素質(zhì)的全面提升。考慮到疫情影響,學(xué)院還人性化地開設(shè)了線上遠(yuǎn)程科研項(xiàng)目,為無法返校的國(guó)際生們同樣提供參與科研的機(jī)會(huì)。
由大三學(xué)生余艾洋、大二學(xué)生孫健鋮和博士生王心培組成的團(tuán)隊(duì)便向我們“首秀”了他們獨(dú)創(chuàng)的“五指仿生機(jī)械手”。一旁的指導(dǎo)老師電氣工程及其自動(dòng)化專業(yè)的王成波副教授忍不住“安利”道,“這個(gè)項(xiàng)目非常有創(chuàng)新性,是學(xué)生自己提出的。在短短的6個(gè)周之內(nèi),他們完成了設(shè)計(jì),算法和硬件,調(diào)試等一系列的工作。這是我指導(dǎo)過的最佳暑期研究項(xiàng)目之一!
“五指仿生機(jī)械手”能夠復(fù)制人手的運(yùn)動(dòng)
據(jù)余艾洋介紹,“五指仿生機(jī)械手”可以用來輔助肢體或手指殘疾的患者。它的原理是通過配帶在手臂上的環(huán)形肌肉電信號(hào)傳感器,連接電腦并機(jī)器學(xué)習(xí)不同的手勢(shì),再通過與電腦相連的驅(qū)動(dòng)板控制仿生手的運(yùn)動(dòng)。實(shí)驗(yàn)證明,該“仿生機(jī)械手”每根手指、每個(gè)關(guān)節(jié)都有其獨(dú)立性,操控成功率可達(dá)80%以上。
土木工程系的張緯鑫、盧展輝和劉宗璇同學(xué)則組成了一個(gè)科研小隊(duì)伍,圍繞著利用工業(yè)廢棄物制備綠色低碳水泥基材料課題開展了暑期研究。指導(dǎo)老師李波副教授介紹說,該課題對(duì)建筑領(lǐng)域的“碳達(dá)峰、碳中和”目標(biāo)實(shí)現(xiàn)有極大的促進(jìn)作用。學(xué)生們積極主動(dòng)地進(jìn)行了查閱文獻(xiàn)、制定方案、開展試驗(yàn)、結(jié)果分析總結(jié)等工作。這不但提高了學(xué)生們的科研能力和學(xué)術(shù)素養(yǎng),而且也培養(yǎng)了他們的創(chuàng)新思維與創(chuàng)新能力。

據(jù)了解,暑期科研實(shí)習(xí)項(xiàng)目設(shè)立之初,寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)理工學(xué)院就希望學(xué)生能通過探討問題、戶外考察、采集數(shù)據(jù)、動(dòng)手實(shí)驗(yàn)、撰寫報(bào)告等方式,有機(jī)會(huì)沉浸式體驗(yàn)科研的全過程,將自己在課堂所學(xué)的知識(shí)應(yīng)用到實(shí)際生產(chǎn)和生活中。

學(xué)以致用帶來價(jià)值創(chuàng)造
讓學(xué)生能夠參與到真正產(chǎn)業(yè)化商業(yè)化的項(xiàng)目中,而非不明實(shí)際需求的盲目創(chuàng)新,是寧諾暑期科研項(xiàng)目另一個(gè)特點(diǎn)。大二學(xué)生楊皓中、王軼正參與了航空系李灝楠副教授的桌面五軸加工中心項(xiàng)目,主要負(fù)責(zé)復(fù)雜零件加工軌跡規(guī)劃與機(jī)床動(dòng)力學(xué)優(yōu)化方面的內(nèi)容。李老師解釋說,“學(xué)生暑研解決的問題均來自我們真實(shí)用戶的需求,這讓同學(xué)們研究時(shí)更具目的性,成果更具實(shí)際意義”。

暑假期間,電氣工程及其自動(dòng)化專業(yè)的王子銘同學(xué)跟隨航空航天學(xué)院的ChungKet Thein博士做關(guān)于振動(dòng)能量回收的項(xiàng)目。子銘說,這個(gè)項(xiàng)目可以說是他在學(xué)期研究中的關(guān)于銣系強(qiáng)磁鐵研究的延續(xù)。隨著項(xiàng)目的推進(jìn),導(dǎo)師和他發(fā)現(xiàn)了一個(gè)新的創(chuàng)新點(diǎn)并自主設(shè)計(jì)了一套新的震動(dòng)電機(jī)控制系統(tǒng),并計(jì)劃將此作為一個(gè)新的項(xiàng)目延續(xù)下去。
注重學(xué)生的在校體驗(yàn),尊重每一個(gè)學(xué)生的創(chuàng)新與創(chuàng)意,十年發(fā)展讓暑期科研實(shí)習(xí)收獲頗豐。寧諾機(jī)甲戰(zhàn)隊(duì)在RoboMaster2021機(jī)甲大師超級(jí)對(duì)抗賽(國(guó)家賽區(qū))線上評(píng)審中獲二等獎(jiǎng),曾自主研發(fā)方程式賽車的成員選擇畢業(yè)后創(chuàng)業(yè)——研發(fā)適用于二輪車的半主動(dòng)減震電調(diào)系統(tǒng),創(chuàng)新實(shí)驗(yàn)室的4個(gè)項(xiàng)目入圍今年挑戰(zhàn)杯。
理工學(xué)院院長(zhǎng)吳韜教授說:

經(jīng)過幾年的磨合和探索,我們欣喜地看到,學(xué)生不僅找到了自己興趣所在和發(fā)展方向,更是為知識(shí)轉(zhuǎn)移和創(chuàng)新創(chuàng)業(yè)提供了新的入口。
”在他看來,本科生科研實(shí)習(xí)項(xiàng)目“風(fēng)靡”的背后,隱含著寧諾以人為本的國(guó)際化人才培養(yǎng)和高等教育質(zhì)量控制理念。據(jù)介紹,寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)所有的工程類本科專業(yè)(除新增專業(yè)外)、建筑學(xué)專業(yè)及計(jì)算機(jī)科學(xué)系的兩個(gè)專業(yè)均獲得了國(guó)際權(quán)威機(jī)構(gòu)的認(rèn)證。理工學(xué)院始終貫徹“以學(xué)生為中心”的教育理念,突出教學(xué),關(guān)注質(zhì)量,通過啟發(fā)式教學(xué)、互動(dòng)式教學(xué)、基于項(xiàng)目的教學(xué)以及團(tuán)隊(duì)和個(gè)人設(shè)計(jì)項(xiàng)目,點(diǎn)燃學(xué)生智慧火花,讓學(xué)生學(xué)會(huì)學(xué)習(xí)、學(xué)會(huì)做事、學(xué)會(huì)發(fā)現(xiàn)、學(xué)會(huì)創(chuàng)新。
Student Extra-curriculum Programme allows creativity to become reality
2021 is the tenth year that the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FoSE) of the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) has offered the Student Extra-curriculum Programme (SEP). Unlike previous programmes, this year the SEP extends across the whole academic year. During the last term, the programme included 14 scientific research projects with the participation of 124 students. This summer, approximately 400 students joined over 100 scientific research projects.
The FoSE Undergraduate Research Placement is a crucial part of the SEP, which aims to provide opportunities for students to contact and interact with peer students from different disciplines and years; it serves as a platform for students to explore the essence of scientific research, improve scientific research skills and find their own interests, to release the potential of students and enhance their comprehensive capabilities. Considering the impact of the pandemic, there are also quite a number of projects available to off-campus students.
The Innovation Lab, another significant component of the SEP, serves as an innovative platform hosting a number of student-centred projects. Here students are able to explore their field of interest and turn their innovative ideas into practice. The University offers students a professional supervisory team to support them to integrate theory and practice, improving students’ ability to apply knowledge and think independently.
The Bionic Manipulator Controlled by Muscle Electronic Sensor developed by two undergraduates Aiyang Yu, Jiancheng Sun and PhD candidate Xinpei Wang, was very innovative. The device can be used to help patients with limb or finger disabilities, and each finger and each joint of the “bionic manipulator” is proven to be independent – with a success rate of control over 80%. “This is one of the best summer research projects that I have supervised,” said Dr Chengbo Wang, Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
The team of Weixin Zhang, Zhanhui Lu and Zongxuan Liu of Civil Engineering carried out research on developing green cement-based material out of industrial waste. Dr Bo Li, Associate Professor in Structural Engineering and their supervisor, commented that the experience of the complete scientific cycle, from literature review to result analysis, promoted their academic literacy as well as their innovative thinking.
Encouraging students to participate in industrial and commercial projects rather than innovation without practical possibility is a key feature of SEP. Haozhong Yang and Yizheng Wang joined the project team of Dr Haonan Li, Associate Professor in the Department of Aerospace, focusing on path planning of milling tool for complex parts and machine tool optimisation. “The problems solved are real demands from the industry, which makes the students' research more purposeful and practical,” said Dr Li.
Focusing on students’ experiences and respecting each student’s innovation and creativity, the summer research programmes have developed rapidly over the past ten years. A UNNC team won third prize in the international group in the RoboMaster competition founded by DJI. The team members started their own business after graduation to develop adaptive electronic suspension control systems suitable for two wheeled vehicles. In addition, four projects from the Innovation Lab headed to compete in this year's Challenge Cup.
“After years of exploration, we are pleased to see that students have not only found their own interests and research direction, but also discovered a new possibility for knowledge transfer, innovation and entrepreneurship,” said Professor Tao Wu, Dean of FoSE.
In his opinion, the SEP reflects the concept of student-centred international talent cultivation and quality control of higher education of UNNC. Currently, all engineering undergraduate programmes (except new programmes) at UNNC have obtained international accreditation, as well as multiple other programmes such as Architecture, Computer Science and Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence. Through interactive and heuristic project-based teaching and individual or team-based programmes, FoSE helps student to improve their innovation, design abilities, cross-cultural communication skills, as well as helping to develop independent and engineering thinking modes. It has also cultivated generations of graduates favored by world-class institutions and enterprises.
